Project Description

Ice Skating

It has been said that ice skating is the most popular winter sport. That is debateable when you are in a place like Vail with skiers everywhere.  In any case, it is a very popular activity here and it appeals to all ages. There are many places to ice skate in the Vail area, in both winter and summer.

Dobson Arena in Vail is our year around indoor facility. Dobson Arena is located at the west end of Vail Village across from The Vail Public Library. You can rent skates and go for a spin during free skate hours, or drop in on a hockey match if you would like to. Everything you need to know about Dobson Arena .

In the heart of Vail Village is the outdoor Solaris ice rink. It is open in the winter only. For more information about this rink read here: https://solarisvail.com/winter-activities/.

Lionshead also has an outdoor ice rink at The Arrabelle. Take a spin around the Alderhof Ice Rink, located in the heart of Vail Square. The rink is open daily from Thanksgiving – Vail Mountain Closing Day, with hours of operation 1:00pm – 9:00pm. Ice skates are available for rent.

The Black Family Ice Rink at Beaver Creek is also an outdoor rink. For more information about winter skating please go to: https://www.beavercreek.com/explore-the-resort/activities/winter-activities/winter-ice-skating.aspx. This rink is also open in the summer.

Lastly, Eagle has a year around indoor ice rink. Eagle is about 30 miles west of Vail. Here is a link to ice skating activities in Eagle: https://mountainrec.org/facility/eagle-pool-ice-rink/.

Many famous Olympic skaters come to train in Vail because the altitude is a boost to their training. Maybe you will get lucky and see one of them do a triple axel at Dobson Arena! Or just enjoy your skate…
